There’s something about the 8-bit aesthetic that strikes a chord with everyone of a certain generation, calling to mind those halcyon days when everyone had the same games console and a tablet was something you took for hay fever. Shanghai-based designer Sabine Ducasse has mastered that look in her award-winning Melting Pot collection, which fuses perler beads together into wearable garments that definitely take you back to the future.

The tropical island of Lombok, Indonesia with it's dense coconut and palm tree forests and pristine beaches calls itself home to the 'villa sapi' resort home on a three-hectare beachfront property. The work of canadian designer david lombardi offers a wide range of activities on the private premises, hosted at an impressive five bedroom home that offers a mix of traditional elements interpreted as contemporary spaces. This is also reflected in the material palette, as reinforced concrete transitions into ulin (a hard wood used for the roof construction), batu chandi (lava rock), paras (sandstone) and bamboo all sourced locally. Valencia-based architectural practice Fran Silvestre Arquitectos have completed the ALT House project. Completed in 2012, the luxury clifftop property can be found in Calp, Spain. According to the architects: “Due to the steepness of the plot and the desire to contain the house in just one level, a three-dimensional structure of reinforced concrete slabs and screens adapting to the plot’s topography was chosen, thus minimising the earthwork. New York and Beijing-based practice Steven Holl Architects has just shared images of their recently won competition to design the new 'tianjin ecocity ecology and planning museums.' Located in a new eco-city being built on the polluted tide flats of Bohai Bay just south of Beijing that will be home to 350,000 inhabitants, the museum structures will be the first in the cultural district. The hut was developed in a design- and building workshop with students from the University of Technology in Trondheim following an international seminar about the future of eco-tourism in the Western Ghats region in India.
